“The tea-shop was hushed as a library; a few solitary men in bedroom slippers from Balliol and Trinity looked up as I entered, then turned back to their Sunday newspapers.”

Evelyn Waugh Brideshead Revisited

JESUS

Oxford

Jesus College was founded by Elizabeth I in 1571. It is situated right in the middle of the city, and stands on Turl Street, Cornmarket Street, Ship Street and Market Street. Wander down Turl Street and view it from Exeter College; the building has an understated beauty.

As well as Brideshead Revisited the grounds of Trinity have been used for filming Lewis, Endeavor and Charles Finch's The Last Enchantments.

TRINITY

Oxford

Trinity College was founded in 1555 by Thomas Pope, a wealthy landowner and member of Parliament. He bequeathed the college to the students who he hoped would remember him in their prayers. The chapel alter holds his remains.

The White Horse pub on Broad Street, a sixteenth century, gradeII listed building is often packed to the gunnels with local students.

It is also a favourite amongst music lovers as it sits directly across from the Sheldonian Theatre.
