​On May Morning each year, choristers from Magdalen College School gather at the top of Magdalen Tower and sing 'Hymnus Eucharisticus'. It is a 500 year tradition. The scene was depicted by William Holman Hunt in his painting 'May Morning on Magdalen Tower in 1890.

 Magdalen Tower was completed in 1509. It is

one of the tallest structures in Oxford and forms part of the Oxford skyline.

 

For many years, on May morning,  students would jump over Magdalen  Bridge into the river Cherwell.
