
ST EDMUND HALL
Oxford
St Edmund Hall, also known as Teddy Hall was founded in 1278. It is the oldest medieval academic hall in Oxford and the last. The coat of arms above the door has the latin inscription "sanctus edmundus huius aulae lux", meaning "St Edmund, light of this Hall".

In paintings and drawings of St Edmund Hall is often depicted with a well. This well was discovered in 1926 in the college's first quadrangle. A wooden frame and bucket were to be added but the idea was dropped as it would have affected the appearance of the quadrangle.

The Grand Cafe, Oxford
The Grand Cafe is the oldest coffee house in England. Samuel Pepys made reference to it in his diary in 1650.It is situated on Oxford high street directly across from St Edmund Hall.
Interesting fact: Hollywell Music Room is the first custom built music hall in Europe. It was designed by the Vice-Principal of St Edmund Hall, Thomas Camplin and opened in 1748. It sits on the grounds of Wadham College.
