ST HUGH'S

Oxford

St Hugh’s College was
founded in 1886 by Elizabeth Wordsworth,

the great niece of William Wordsworth. The college was set up exclusively for women; it enabled them to afford an education which otherwise would have been beyond their means; a hundred years later in 1986 St Hugh’s admitted male students.

VIEW FROM

The main building was designed by H.T. Buckland and W.A. Haywood in the Baroque style 1914-1916. The Tuscan columns frame double doors, on the left-hand side of which is a bell to summon the porters.

Bicycles are not permitted 'beyond the point of entry' on the college grounds. Highly recommended is Walton Street Cycles in Jericho for buying and servicing bicycles.
