In 1810, a local art dealer, James Wyatt, commissed J.M.W. Turner to paint the High Street in Oxford. Initially it was going to be the blueprint for a series of engravings. Visit the Ashmoleum Museum in Beaumont Street in Oxford and see it in the flesh. If you remove the people walking occupying the foreground in the picture you will notice that very little of the original view has changed.
